“Days pass by so slowly, but years pass so quickly”

I heard this phrase from someone and it really made me think about how I spend my days. Some days, I find myself sitting at my desk counting down the time before I can leave and go home. Then one day, I’ll look up and Christmas is already here and I think about where all the time went. If you are living each day in order to get to Christmas or your birthday or that next vacation, then you might not be living the way you should be. You might not always be happy.

Think to yourself – why are you not enjoying every moment of every day? Why are you spending the days just living for the weekends and holidays? How can you make every day better? More importantly, how can you make every day better NOW?

It’s so easy to stay with the status quo and not make any changes in life. It’s so easy to think about something tomorrow or next week or next year. Changing your days so you don’t count the minutes is a big task. Why not start by making one small change at a time so you will gradually look at the clock less and less?

It’s Friday and it’s the weekend. Take the time to think about one thing that you could try next week to make your days more fun, more enjoyable, and more momentous. Whether it is doing a new activity, trying a new restaurant, or reconnecting with a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile, do something different this weekend and see how much happier you feel.

Make each day significant, make it your job to find a way to always be happy!

Are you lazy? No way! Do you want to be lazy? I do. Not sure about you, but I can’t seem to get away from work. This morning, I saw a new study that said that 41% of people check their email right after they wake up! Instead of lying in bed, getting a cup of coffee, or even getting up to go the bathroom, people check their emails. Are you one of them?

With the internet and cell phones, we now work all the time and hardly get any rest. We even frown on people who we think are lazy and take lots of breaks. That co-worker of yours who always leaves at 6 PM? Yes, every time you see her leave, you probably think about how she’s never going to get promoted. That friend of yours who always tells you about skipping the gym and sleeping in? Yup, she’s the one that you know will get really fat soon.

The problem is, if you don’t take a break once in awhile, you will eventually burn out. You cannot constantly stress something and expect it to stay strong. When body builders are trying to build muscle, their trainers always tell them to rest for 1-2 days between workouts in order to give their muscles time to repair and grow. Your brain and body need the same thing. If you are not lazy and you don’t rest, they won’t have time to repair and grow and they won’t perform at their peak. Instead, they will experience long-term damage that you won’t be able to fix later.

Be lazy and be happy. Take time to rest now so you can be more successful.

Being lazy doesn’t mean that you will miss out on the next big project. It means that you allow yourself to relax and take a break from the buzz of work, meetings, and life. It means you allow your body and mind to relax so they can recharge. Have you ever noticed how refreshed and happy you feel after a vacation? This is the same thing! Consider it a mini-vacation each time you are lazy. Take 1 hour and go to the spa. Lie in bed for an extra 30 minutes and read a good book. Choose something that relaxes you and will make you happy and take some time to do it.

Be lazy. Find what recharges you and make that your own secret to life success. Trust me. After you get back to your work, you will find yourself with so many more new ideas and new energy to do even more than before.

When was the last time you did something silly? What is silly, do you even remember? Silly is when you dance around the living room in your underwear or when you play a little joke on a friend. Silly is when you do something that you think is funny and when you don’t care what other people think because you are happy doing it. Silly is just for you since only you might like it.

I’ve heard the phrase “do something fun every day” and I thought it was great. But, when I tried to do it, it was so hard sometimes. Doing something fun seemed to take a lot of time and effort. True, reading a book or watching a good TV show might count as something fun, but something really fun felt like it needed to be more. It made me feel like I needed to go somewhere and do something, not just stay at home. I felt the pressure to go to a concert or museum or the beach. Sometimes, so much effort was put into doing something fun that when I was doing the actual activity, it wasn’t fun anymore. There had been too much anticipation and work towards it.

So, I came up with: Do something silly every day. It will make you feel good and help you let go. The whole point of this is to help you take your mind off of things and to help you relax and feel good each day. When you are having a good day, that always seems easy. But, when you are having a bad day, putting a smile on your face seems a bit harder. During those times, doing something silly will hopefully take your mind off of your problems and help you have a little fun in the process.

Silliness is usually reserved for little kids. When you were a kid, you probably heard that word all the time. But, as adults, that word is rarely used. Somehow, as we were growing up, something told us that we weren’t allowed to be silly anymore. I say, why not? Being silly helps you let go. Being silly helps you care less about what other people think. You know what you’re doing is a little bit funny, but it’s fun so you don’t care. When you were a kid and you were silly, did you worry about what other people were thinking? Probably not, it was too fun.

So, do something silly every day and try to find happiness out of the small things. Make a funny face. Walk backwards. Do the Roger Rabbit in the middle of the hallway. Think of something random that doesn’t fit into the word “normal” and do it. It will make you laugh or smile and somehow, afterwards, you will feel happier than before.
